This song is a beautiful illustration of the importance of learning to hear the voice of God. The tone of the song clearly shows the longing and desire the artists have to hear and know God. I also hear it speak to the Father’s longing to know His children.
God speaks to His children in all sorts of different ways. The song demonstrates the many ways we can hear His voice and acknowledges that He might not speak to you the same way He spoke to your mother or father or friend. He has a unique relationship with you.
He loves to speak to us and He loves to speak through His creation. We can see and hear from God when we take time to develop our relationship with Him he helps us to have eyes to see and ears to hear. God can speak to us through nature like the ocean water, rain fall or a sunrise or sunset. He can speak to us through children and their laughter or tears. He can even speak to us through the simplicity of a story from our grandfather or a backyard grill out with family.
Although we can hear God’s voice through simple things this song also acknowledges God’s Holiness and honors Him with reverent worship as they sing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, there is no one else like Him.” His voice changes things. He can calm our fears and He can bring about a miracle through His words. The winds and waves obey His voice, He is in control.
Sometimes it can be hard to describe the voice of God. But just like any relationship the more we spend time with and get to know someone the deeper we get to know them and recognize their voice when they are speaking to us. I want to encourage you to take time today to listen for the voice of God and see where and how He is speaking to you.
