The Bible tells us Jesus, who did not know sin, became sin that we might become the righteousness of God. I believe the full weight of this calling was realized in Jesus’s powerful prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.
In this painting, I was striving to capture the spiritual anguish and physical torment that Jesus suffered. As the scripture says, “His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.”
As I worked each of the brush strokes into this piece, it became crystal clear to me that I had no idea what Jesus went through that night. For I was born into sin and my entire life has been subject to it. But in some amazing way, when Jesus took on which He did not know, He made a way that I, through faith, might become what I did not know.
